Our Preschools
Campbell Primary School has two preschools - Campbell Preschool, located on school grounds, and the Allen Main Memorial Preschool at Duntroon. Strong relationships between preschool and primary school staff and students help to create a cohesive, stimulating and supportive environment that caters for individual needs and interests while maximising student learning.
Preschool learning experiences are based on the Australian Developmental Curriculum, a play and project based learning philosophy. This approach enables teachers to maximise opportunities for integrating children's interests with investigations that link directly to elements of literacy and numeracy and other areas of learning. Learning is about the academic but it is also about the social, emotional and cultural influences in a child's life.
Key aspects of play and project based learning
-
Creativity and open-ended tasks (tasks with more than one right answer) are encouraged rather than cloned artwork; for example, limited use or no use of worksheets that all have the same stencilled outline
-
Promoting knowledge, understandings and skills through hands-on constructions, creations and dramatic play in which children are engaged
-
Places children's interests as an integral part of planning
-
Objectives for learning and development are the starting point for planning
-
Seeks to ensure that not only girls, but also boys are actively engaged in their learning and that boys are not set up to experience frustrations associated with some of the specific aspects of boys' development
