Before and After School Care

The Campbell Before and After School Activity Centre (CASAC) is an enjoyable environment for children between 7.30 – 9.00am and 3.00 – 6.00pm on school days. Children may attend on a permanent or casual basis.

The following rules help CASAC to run efficiently and cost-effectively:

Hours
CASAC is open every school day from 7.30 - 9.00am and 3.00 – 6.00pm.

Registration
Our license states that children must be registered before they attend CASAC. Forms can be obtained from the centre on any school day between 7.30 - 9.00am and 2.00 - 6.00pm.  The centre is currently licensed for 100 children.

Bookings
To ensure accurate staffing, children must be booked into CASAC at least one week in advance if possible. On Friday, many parents book for the following week. You may also make permanent bookings.

Book in person at the Centre or by phone at any time on (02) 6247 1287. An answering machine is available for your convenience.

Cancellations
If your child is booked into CASAC and does not attend, you will still be charged the appropriate fee, unless you have cancelled at least one week in advance. Cancel in person at the Centre or by phone during CASAC hours.

Fees
We are a non-profit organisation and the fees only cover costs. Charges are reviewed at the end of each term. At present fees are:

Permanent booking:   $15.50 for the Afternoon Session and $7.00 for the Morning session
Casual booking:        $16.50 for the Morning Session and $8.00 for the Morning session

You may pay in cash or by cheque. Fees are payable fortnightly for the current week and one week in advance. A $15.00 late payment fee will be charged if payment is not received by the due date.

A late pickup fee of $15.00 for every 15 minutes is applicable after 6.00pm.  Families who are frequently late may be asked to leave the centre.

Morning Session
The morning session operates from 7.30 - 9.00am. Children are offered a light breakfast of toast, cereal and juice or milo.

Afternoon Session

The afternoon session operates from 3.00-6.00pm.  Afternoon teas are served daily, shortly after 4.00pm. The menu is varied and includes sandwiches, fruit, biscuits etc. Hot Dogs/Sausage Sizzles are provided regularly. Cordial and Ice Blocks are served in warm weather.

There are a variety of activities provided for the children such as board games, group games, music, dramatic play, cooking, arts and crafts. As well as structured activities, children are also encouraged to participate in free play either inside or outside.

Staff
It is a legal requirement that we provide one staff member per 11 children. It is also a requirement that we have two staff on duty at all times. As we are non-profit, we cannot afford to overstaff. Remember, advance bookings are essential. At present we are licensed to cater for 100 children.

Parent Involvement
CASAC is always happy for parents to come along and visit or participate at the centre during daily open hours. The children think it’s great to have Mum or Dad join in a game or craft activity.

Signing Children Out
Parents, or anyone else collecting your child, must actually sign the child out. In addition to initialling the attendance sheet, the time of collection must be noted. The names of those who are entitled to collect your child from CASAC must be listed at CASAC. This is the only way to guarantee your child’s safety. No child will be allowed to leave with someone not listed on the child’s registration form. Feel free to add names to your form as the year progresses. If your child is going home to play with someone else or is being collected for a birthday party, be sure to advise CASAC, in writing, as to who will collect your child.

Behaviour
We know children can be tired, bored, hungry and mischevious after school; in fact, we expect that. Parents can be grumpy at the end of the day too. However, CASAC reserves the right to withdraw services for children or parents who are excessively disruptive to the operation of the centre, the staff and those attending.

Donations
We can always use donations of materials, ideas, etc. Are you about to throw out some dolls, dress up clothes, toys or games? Do you have any craft materials, wood off-cuts, spare hammers or wool or fabric scraps in the cupboard? The Centre will give such things a good home and a second life.

More Information
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call the CASAC Co-ordinator on (02) 6247 1287.
