Dear families,
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to outgoing Board Chair Carina Kemp for her contributions to Campbell Primary School's school board. Her dedication and hard work have made a significant impact on our school community.
Thank you for your leadership and expertise which have been invaluable in guiding us towards achieving our goals and ensuring that our students receive the best education possible. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we are all grateful for the countless hours you have spent working with us to make Campbell Primary School a better place. Your willingness to serve on the school board and share your knowledge and experience has been greatly appreciated.
On behalf of the entire Campbell Primary School community, I would like to convey our thanks for your contributions. Your commitment to the school board has made a significant difference, and we are grateful for your continuing support.
Harmony Day
On Tuesday 21 March students participated in Harmony Day activities, it was truly inspiring to see such a wonderful display of diversity, unity and respect.
The staff members and student enthusiasm and creativity in creating and participating in enriching learning experiences that celebrated the many different cultures represented in our school community were truly remarkable. The joy and energy brought to the day was infectious, and it was evident that the day was enjoyed by many.
Harmony Day is an important occasion for us to recognise the rich cultural diversity that makes Australia such a unique and special place. Your participation in this event helped to promote respect, inclusivity, and understanding within our school community and beyond.
School Fete
Attention all families! We would like to invite you to join us at the Campbell Primary School fete, taking place between 10am and 2pm on Saturday 25 March. This year's event promises to be entertaining, with a wide range of activities and attractions for children and adults alike. From exciting stalls, and performances to delicious food and drink, there's something for everyone at the fete. It's a perfect opportunity to spend quality time with your family while supporting our school community. Don't miss out on the chance to be a part of this fantastic event. We look forward to seeing you there!
Friendly reminder: Morning drop off
As we prepare for another exciting week of learning and growth at our school, we wanted to remind you that the front office is staffed from 8:30am till 3:30pm if parents need to contact the school.
However, we kindly ask that you do not drop off your child or leave them unattended on school grounds before 8:45am as there is no teacher support or supervision available until this time. We want to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our students which is why CASAC offer before school care for families who require an early morning drop off.
The working day for teaching and administration staff starts at 8:30am enabling time to prepare the classroom and lessons. Playground supervision by designated staff commences at 8:45am.
Thank you for your understanding and support in adhering to our school's drop-off and pick-up times. By working together, we can create a positive and safe learning environment for all our students.

Voluntary Contributions
Families receive a Voluntary Contribution note earlier this term. With the inclusion of a full time STEM and Arts specialist we would really like to use the contributions to purchase equipment for those programs. A very big thank you to the 27% of our Kindergarten to Year 6 families and the 30% of our Preschool families who have already made their contribution. A reminder note will be emailed to families next week.
Thank you
The P&C have very generously organised the purchase of some home reading folders for our Kindergarten and Year 1 students. The students were incredibly excited to be taking home a very special resources for their reading at home. We love how these folders help to build the profile of reading at home.
Superstar student
Joe W has been growing his hair long and has cut it off to donate it! He was inspired to grow his hair extra-long after reading a story in one of his books, “Stories for Boys who Dare to be Different”.
In the book Joe read a true story about an 8-year-old boy named Christian McPhilamy from America who decided to grow his hair super long, then had it all cut off so he could donate the hair so that it could be made into a wig for people who had lost their own due to sickness.
With his hair long enough, Joe was super excited to get his first hair cut in nearly two years! His hair donation was 26cm long, easily long enough for it to be made into a wig for someone who had lost their own hair. I’d like you guys to be inspired by this wonderful story and grow your hair too!
A very big thank you to Joe’s family for sharing his story with us. We have ordered a copy of the “Stories for Boys who Dare to be Different” for our library. We are incredibly proud of you Joe.
Campbell Primary School P&C Mosaic Project
The wheels are in motion for our Preschool to Year 6 students to engage with local artist, Tina van Rayy, on a beautiful mosaic project for our school. Next term, each student will spend some time working with Tina. Years P-3 will all work on small mosaic projects for pieces that can be later displayed indoors, and years 4-6 will all contribute to the large glass mosaic, to be displayed in the location pictured below.
In the meantime, we need your help!
We are collecting any assortment of ceramic, tile or glass, or ‘found objects’ such as interesting rocks, shells, beads, old jewellery and any other bits and pieces you have around your home. These contributions will be included in either the main mosaic, or the smaller boards that our junior school students will create with Tina. Keep an eye out for a collection box at the front office!
If you are curious about Tina’s beautiful artworks and creations, many can be seen here on her website: https://glassicalbits.net/
We are very thankful for the P&C’s generosity in funding this project. It will be an enriching experience that the Campbell community will enjoy for many years to come!
Please feel welcome to reach out to Kate Herrington if you have any questions or would like to contribute to the mosaic project at kate.herrington@ed.act.edu.au

We are looking forward to the 2023 Athletics Carnival next Tuesday 28 March at Woden Athletics Track.
The buses will be leaving at around 9:10am so it is vitally important that students arrive at school on time. Pre-school, Kindergarten and Year 1 students will be returning to school at around 12pm following their rotations.
All students are encouraged to wear their house colours (Britten – blue, Davidson – green, Hodge – red and Walker – yellow) as well as footwear suitable for physical activity. It is also important that students bring plenty of water, food and a sun smart hat. The canteen will be available for students in Years 2-6 with a modified menu. For more information about the canteen service on Tuesday please see below.
The weather forecast at this stage predicts a chance of rain. We will monitor the situation with the weather and unless there is severe weather the carnival will go ahead. If required, we will prioritise completing the track (running) events as we have facilities to complete the long jump and shot put at school at a later date.
Students competing in the 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12/13 years running events, will receive a certificate if they finish first, second or third in their heat. These will be given to the students straight after the heat. It will be their responsibility to put it in their bag and take it home with them. Ribbons will be awarded for the top 3 overall (based on times). These will be awarded at Yuma on Friday 31 March.

Crazy Hair Day/The Shave/Sausage Sizzle - Cancer Council Fundraiser
On Friday, 31 March, the Year 6 Fundraising and Community Committee will be hosting Crazy Hair Day, The Shave and a Sausage Sizzle to raise funds for the Cancer Council. This is a student-led project with the proceeds going towards supporting cancer research initiatives, helping cancer patients access the care they need, and funding education and awareness programs to help prevent cancer in the future.
On this day, we are encouraging students to come to school with their hair styled in a crazy, wacky or unusual way. This can include using hair dye, gel, spray, or any other hair accessories they desire. During morning Yuma, we will be hosting ‘The Shave’ where several students and staff have volunteered to shave their hair off in support of those who have suffered with this disease.
The CASAC team are very excited to release our fun filled April Vacation Care.
These school holidays CASAC will be running a variety of excursions, incursions and in house programs to meet the diverse interests of the children in our care. Excursions will include the War Memorial and Boundless Playground. Please note that all places for excursions are limited.
We also have fun incursions planned including, a Gecko Sports Colour Run and Dr. Hubble Bubble.
All April vacation care bookings will need to be made as casual bookings through My Family Lounge.
