Dear families and carers,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and enjoying the start of the winter season. We have some news to share regarding changes within our school community.
Firstly, I will temporarily move across to Kingsford Smith School as Principal from 26 June 2023 until the end of Term 3. I will continue to be actively involved with Campbell Primary School, and I am confident that our fantastic team will ensure a seamless transition during my absence.
I want to thank the Campbell Primary School community for the incredible support you have shown me over the years. Working alongside dedicated teachers, exceptional students, and supportive parents has been a source of immense joy and pride. I am grateful for the collaborative spirit and the shared commitment to providing the best possible education for our children.
During this transitional period, I am pleased to announce that Ms Erin Minehan will step into the role of Acting Principal pending official recruitment processes. Ms Minehan is an experienced and highly capable educator integral to our school leadership team. Her commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment is commendable, and I have complete confidence in her ability to lead our school.
Additionally, pending recruitment processes, Ms Kate Herrington will be acting as Deputy Principal. Ms Herrington brings experience in educational leadership and a deep understanding of our school's vision and values. Her dedication to student welfare and academic excellence will ensure the continued success of Campbell Primary School.
Furthermore, I am delighted to share that Mr Alistair Scherer will continue as Executive Teacher. Mr Scherer has been an invaluable asset to our school community, and his expertise in future focus learning and inquiry learning will continue to enrich the educational experience of our students.
In more exciting news, we welcome Ms Kerry Johnstone to Campbell Primary School. Ms Johnstone joins us as a highly experienced Executive Teacher with a strong passion for improving the learning outcomes of all students. Her enthusiasm, knowledge, and dedication will undoubtedly positively impact our school community, and we are thrilled to have her on board.
As we navigate this transition period, we assure you that our focus remains steadfast on providing the highest quality education for your children. Our dedicated staff, along with the support of our wonderful parent community, will continue to create safe, engaging, and stimulating environments for all students to thrive.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support and trust. We look forward to the exciting times ahead and the continued success of Campbell Primary School. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Warmest regards
Paula Kinsman
We are sad to announce that one of our incredible Learning Support Assistants, Caitlyn Dodge, will be moving back to Tasmania at the end of this term.
As all our preschool families know, we have been very lucky to work with Caitlyn for almost the last two years.
During her time, Caitlyn has worked closely with the other educators in preschool to create safe learning spaces where the smallest little people in our school can be risk taskers and feel very positive about school.
Sami Gee will be moving across to support our preschoolers. Sami originally joined our CPS preschool team in 2020 and comes with an enormous amount of early childhood experience.
We are going to miss Caitlyn and wish her all the best of luck back in Tassie.
If you need to drop your child off at school prior to 8:45am, please be reminded there is no teaching staff supervising the playground.
The front office doors will remain locked until the front office staff officially start work at 8:30am.
If you need to drop your child off at school prior to 8:30am without a CASAC booking, please drop them at the playground, or encourage them to walk around the school to the playground.
Please do not leave your children unattended at the front doors near the carpark.
Friday, Week 10 – PBL badges will be handed out at Morning Yuma.
Students have been working hard to display the qualities of a Safe, Respectful Learner!
See the chart below to be reminded how many points need to be earned to receive a badge.
Year 3-4 Day Adventure to Birrigai
Year 3-4 Day Adventure to Birrigai
During Week 5, Year 3 and 4 visited Birrigai to spend some time connecting to Ngunnawal country and participating in adventurous activities such as crate climbs, ropes courses and camp fires.
It was a wonderful day. We are so proud of the way each and every one of our Year 3-4 students who attended embraced the opportunities presented to them and actively engaged in every activity.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to this fantastic day.
Please enjoy browsing through a photographic recount by Finn W in 3H.
Dear Campbell Community,
As our Food Drive comes to a close this week, the Year 6 Leadership group would like to extend deepest thanks to our school community for participating in the Campbell Primary Food Drive.
We were overwhelmed with donations and our collective efforts have enabled us to gather two full cupboards of food supplies, ensuring that individuals and families in our community have access to nourishing meals during challenging times.
Your enthusiastic support and generous donations have made a tremendous difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity.
A representative from St John's Care will be coming to meet with the 5/6 cohort for a hand over and to explain how impactful simple events like these can be.
Stay tuned for another opportunity to donate in later in the year.
Once again, thank you for your unwavering support.

Parking around schools - Access Canberra
Recently a number of bus drivers have raised concerns about the dangers posed by cars parking illegally along Vasey Crescent. The result of these cars parking in the No Stopping zone means students have poor visibility at the crossing and cars equally have poor visibility of students crossing the road until they are almost upon them.
Two separate drivers have witnessed near-misses in recent weeks and have independently raised the issue with Access Canberra.
Please be aware, the school will now be monitoring for illegally parked cars and reporting them to the police and Access Canberra.
It is our collective responsibility to do everything we can to protect our little ones, while they themselves do not have the road sense to protect themselves.
Below is a reminder from Access Canberra regarding parking on and around school grounds.
Parking around schools - Access Canberra
Don’t take shortcuts when it comes to parking safety around ours schools.
Access Canberra will be actively monitoring all school areas using Licence Plate Recognition vans, targeting illegal and unsafe parking:
- at signposted ‘no stopping’ or ‘no parking’ zones
- in bus zones
- on zebra crossings
- in disabled bays
- on nature strips and across footpaths
- in bus or bike lanes
- where the driver has blocked off nearby residents driveways
Penalties for doing the wrong thing range from $123 upwards to $615. If you’re doing the wrong thing - you will get caught - and fined.
Remember!
It’s okay to park a little further away and walk the rest of the way. While at the time it might feel inconvenient, every time you do the wrong thing, you put a life at risk.
Consider!
Having a pre-determined meeting spot agreed on with your kids. That way if you are late, they know where to wait - and you don’t have to rush.
More options
If you are looking for alternatives to get the kids to and from school why not consider:
Public Transport
Transport Canberra provides a range of options for school kids via either a dedicated school service or a regular route services.
Active Streets for Schools
Riding, walking, scooting or skating are simple ways to incorporate physical activity into everyday lives and daily journeys. Active Streets for Schools makes it easier and safer for children to ride or walk to school. Not only will this get kids active, it will give parents peace of mind that the route to school is safe and easy to follow. It is also a fun way to get to and from school and helps alleviate some of the traffic congestion created by parents dropping kids off at the school gate.
P&C Communications - Fundraising for Futsal Court for Campbell Primary
Fundraising for Futsal Court for Campbell Primary
We are over a quarter of the way towards our fundraising goal of $10,000 with $2,755 raised so far. A big thank you to all the families that have made a pledge!
We are planning on taking the crowd funder out to the wider Campbell community once we reach 40% of our fundraising goal, but we need to show our community the school supports this initiative to get their support so if you are planning to make a pledge, we would appreciate if you could do so as soon as possible at https://www.pozible.com/profile/campbell-primary-school-pc-association
This campaign is an all or nothing campaign so if we don't reach the $10,000 goal, we don't collect any of the money.
Thank you in advance for your support!

To help stop the further spread of COVID-19 in our school, we are encouraging and implementing the following measures:
- Students who are COVID-19 positive or displaying symptoms (including a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever) should test and must not attend school while unwell.
- Parents and carers must inform schools if their child is COVID-positive.
- Keep up to date with vaccinations.
- Families can access a free rapid antigen test (RAT) from the front office of their school.
- Nasal and saliva tests are available. Test when symptomatic or as a precaution.
- Practise good hand and respiratory hygiene.
- Distance where possible.
