Official Opening of the Basketball Court
It was my absolute pleasure to officially open our new hard surface court on Monday 9 October. Ms Penney organised two representatives from the UC Capitals, Alex Bunton and Alex Sharp. Preschool to Year 6 students watched as the yellow ribbon was cut and cheered on as the Capital reps played a ‘Shoot off’ against some of our passionate student basketballers. Thank you to Ryan S, Jessica W, Oliver J, Ryder C, Rueben F, George S, Emi and Samara w, Esme K and Lily W who represented Campbell and ended up beating the Capitals!
It has been lovely seeing students utilise the courts before school and during breaks. The students are doing a great job sharing the new space and we are ultising the covered area for our Monday and Friday Yumas.

Invigorating Campbell’s Mission and Vision Statement
An email was sent to all our Preschool to Year 6 families this week inviting them to complete a questionnaire on our current school Mission and Vision Statement. The questionnaire aims at input and will be used to facilitate a Family Consultative Group discussion. The discussion will be held on 14 November. Please see below the link for the questionnaire:
https://forms.gle/B1gKVCdWGmexVH4P9
The students across the school will complete something similar. We are very excited about potentially invigorating our supporting statements to better articulate our shared values and beliefs. I encourage all families to take part.
ACT Public Education Awards
Every year the ACT Public Education Awards aim celebrate excellence and recognise high preforming school leaders, teaches, school support staff and volunteers. It was very exciting to see that several of our CPS staff receive a nomination this year.
Kristy Nguyen was nominated for innovation and change within her role as STEM specialist.
Rachel Thane received a nomination as a beginning teacher who has demonstrated a commitment to encourage our students to perceive and work collaboratively.
Kate Deady received a nomination for her role in leading our school’s student leadership committees.
We had several learning support assistances also nominated. Jess Hewitt was nominated for her gardening club initiative. Nicola Hines and Abby Morton received nominations for their commitment to student support - specifically their work around the before school reading/spelling supports for individual students.
We are very proud of our nominees and appreciate those who took the time to nominate.

Acting CPS Principal (25 October to 11 November)
I would like to welcome Nicole Graham, a very experienced Principal of the Junior Campus at Amaroo School, to Campbell Primary community. Ms Graham will be in the Campbell Principal role while I take leave, attending a wedding and spending time with my family who have travelled from overseas. Ms Graham and I are spending two days together so that she has a thorough handover.
Community Play Group
We have initiated a Community Play Group held every second Wednesday (9-10am) in our preschool playground. The Play Group aims at offering all our existing and enrolled families for 2024 the opportunity to make some connections, meet some of the Campbell executive staff and familiarise little people to the school. We hosted our first Play Group on 18 October, and it was lovely to see/meet those families. The Play Group will be held again on 1 November, and we welcome any other CPS community members.

As we explore the opportunities of the new building for our learning, we are also taking the time to reinvigorate what it means to be a member of the Campbell Primary School community in the form of reviewing our Mission and Vision statement.
We invite you to contribute by sharing with us your thoughts, feelings and ideas about what Campbell Primary School means to you!
An email was sent out earlier in the week with a link to a short survey. Please find the link again. https://forms.gle/mkFQMuTqGqaUN68v9
We really value your input and welcome you to complete the survey.
These ideas will be collated with those of the staff and students to create an understanding of what Campbell Primary School means to us.
Please complete and submit the survey by 3 November.

Floriade
Last week we enjoyed our annual whole-school trip to Floriade, where students from Preschool to Year 6 enjoyed seeing the beautiful grounds of Commonwealth Park, as well as enjoy a performance from our Years 5 and 6 bands and junior choir. Taking over 300 children to Floriade is no small feat, and thanks to everyone’s contributions the day went incredibly smoothly! We had over 35 family volunteers, which was a huge help on the day and a wonderful demonstration of how supportive the Campbell Primary School community is! Thank you to all of the volunteers and staff who made the day a success, and big congratulations to our band and choir performers!
End of Year Student Reports
Later this term, families will receive a summative report on their child/ren’s academic performance throughout Semester 2. Term 2
- Written report with comments in Week 10
- Interviews available upon request
Term 3
- Parent-Teacher meetings
Term 4

Student Wellbeing and Safety
This week we have had visits from Kenny Koala in Kindy and Menslink in Year 5/6. Both visits have sent a clear message about the importance of wellbeing and safety for our children. Both Kenny Koala and Menslink have suggested that the following information be shared with families, as a resource to support keeping our children safe and mentally well.

Kenny Koala suggested families explore ‘Think U Know’, which is all about keeping children safe online. https://www.thinkuknow.org.au/resources-tab/parents-and-carers

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
An ACT Education Directorate initiative, PBL is a framework that supports positive outcomes for all students. Schools implement practices and actions that promote clearly defined expectations and acknowledgement of positive behaviours.
At Campbell Primary School you might be familiar with our three PBL values - Safe, Respectful, Learner. You might know that we award dojo points to the children when they demonstrate acts of these values. You may have seen the posters around the school that outline the expectations for each value in various settings. You might even have a student who has earnt a bronze, silver or gold PBL badge. All these actions, in addition to others, form our PBL framework.
This term, we are going to focus on various aspects of our PBL values every week. During Week 2 the focus will be on 'safe learners' and Week 3 we will be looking at what it means to be 'respectful'. Not only we will be learning, talking, exploring the focus topic, there will be lots of acknowledgement and dojo points for students demonstrating the value.
Newly formed, is the PBL student committee! We met for the very first time this week and it was exciting to listen to the students' ideas on how to make our school a safer, more respectful place of learning. These students, are representatives of their year level. We welcome, Duncan (Year 6), Jess (Year 5), Scarlett W (Year 4), Matilda (Year 3), Lewis (Year 2), Odette (Year 1) and Archer H (Kinder), as the voice of the children.

Recount about Moad
On Monday week two we went to old parliament house on a bus for Moad because this term in year 3 our Inquiry topic is kindness. On the bus it hailed but the windows were open so we got wet.Once the teacher closed the windows the rain started leaking into the bus.
First we had a look at the poster that was up there and we had a long talk about democracy because at Moad they talk a lot about democracy which is related to kindness and democracy is including people and not excluding people. Second we got to make our own posters and I was in a group with Seb and Teddy. After we went to the senate which is like the courtroom. After we got to the senate we shared our posters that we made. Then we went back to school on the bus.
Well I hope you liked hearing about Moad. My favourite thing was sharing our posters in the senate.I would love to go back there because it is so cool.
The end!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moad!
It was a miserable, rainy morning. Two classes took off on a bus waiting to be shocked… It was hailing! And it was leaking through the roof. It pushed one of the small windows open. Gallons of water started soaking in and it was even coming through the walls! Everyone started yelling and screaming! It was insane! Water started splashing on the windows! I knew this wouldn’t end well. I knew it. Just wait………….
We arrived at Moad. Luckily we came there in one whole piece. When we got out of the bus everyone started shivering badly. Everyone's shoes were so drenched with water it got to the point when there were puddles in everyone's shoes. Probably not everyone but mostly everyone. We waited outside for ten minutes in freezing temperatures. When it was time to go in… There was a five minute delay!!! Then I went in along with everyone else.
Our guide welcomed us in and then we did art. My partners were Jassar and Xavier. We made a lovely river, a calm forest, and a playful playground! It was the moment stepping into the senate also known as the court it was super old it had an old style too. But before I can say anything else it instantly redeemed by the super comfortable couches it was AMAZING! Then it was time to go back to school. We arrived at school safely. It was a thrilling experience.

MOAD a story
On a cold, rainy miserable morning a group of 33 set off to the bus to go to MOAD. They barely survived the bus ride because water was splashing up at the windows and was leaking through the roof. Finally they arrived in one piece. They had to wait out in the miserable weather for ages but finally their guide came. She was nice but we felt something spooky about her. She explained that it was old parliament house and everyone there was super duper old. They entered and learned all about politics.
It was super fun because they got to create their own playground and stuff. I partnered with Eddie and Joe. Our playground had a pool, spas, a basketball court, a soccer field, a castle playground, swings,a go cart track and much much more.
Then they went to the senate and sat on super comfy chairs. Once they were comfy they all shared their playground ideas with each other. The senate was a big, wooden, round, red room and like the rest of the building had lots of clocks.
Soon enough it was time to go. We all said goodbye and hopped on the bus. We were all super tired after a big adventure. We all ate lunch and had a play. I felt tired but happy when we got back. I really enjoyed learning about kindness at old parliament house.
