It has been a lovely experience for me to visit Campbell Primary School and get to see, hear and value the community you have here. I have especially enjoyed the vibrance and happy dispositions of the learners, with so many young people telling me about what they love about their school and sharing with me their class work. You have a professional and hard working staff who work collaboratively to help the school run smoothly. To those parents I have met throughout my short time here, thank you for being welcoming to a new face on the school grounds.
I wanted to personally thank the P&C who donated a lovely cake for the teachers to enjoy for World Teachers' Day, celebrated on Friday 27 October. A gesture like this demonstrates how a community values the profession of teachers. A big take away for me is the high level of engagement from the P&C and community at Campbell Primary. This extends to P&C run events, like the disco, the Colour Run, the before and afterschool program as well as the volunteers who dash in and about to make the place hum along. Thank you for caring about the staff and recognising the work the staff do every day.
An area of development in the school is the renewal of the school’s vision and mission. The students and staff have been discussing and sharing their beliefs about what a ‘Campbell graduate’ is - the knowledge and skills they have, the effort and persistence in times of challenge, and their personal/social values. For a school to authentically create these statements and beliefs, it must carry the voices of all three stakeholders - the students, the staff and the community. If you haven’t already done so, please take the time to complete the parent survey, sharing your view on what you think is important for the renewal of Campbell Primary’s vision (the desired future state) and mission (a definition of purpose and how it will be achieved). The school has incredible potential through this process to redefine and design 21st century learning through the contemporary learning spaces and eagerness of student learners. https://forms.gle/mkFQMuTqGqaUN68v9
Thanks for having me visit!

PAT Testing
This week, students in Years 2-6 have been participating in PAT testing for Mathematics, Reading, Grammar and Punctuation and Science. PAT (Progressive Achievement Test) is an online platform that we use to monitor student growth and achievement, designed to assess each student’s current capability against the appropriate standard for their age. We view the tests as a way for teachers to learn more about each student’s capabilities and then design learning programs that will help them improve. If you would like to chat further about PAT testing, please feel welcome to reach out to me.
End of Year ILP Meetings
Families of children on Individual/Personalised Learning Plans can expect to receive invitations to End of Year ILP/PLP Meetings in the coming weeks. These meetings are an opportunity for families to meet with classroom teachers and a member of the school’s Executive Team, and in some instances Annette Gloeckler (School Psychologist) will attend. The purpose of the end of year ILP/PLP meetings is to reflect on the learning that has taken place this year and determine the next steps for learners in 2024.
The date, time and location of the meetings will be displayed on each invitation. Due to the complexities of timetabling for these meetings, if you are unable to attend, the meeting will still take place during the allocated time and the ILP will be sent home to families.
We thank families for their flexibility and engagement in this process.

Vision, Mission and Values
We are excited to be able to take the opportunity to reinvigorate our Vision and Mission. The completion of the buildings and the beginning of a new Strategic Plan cycle in 2024, places CPS at a pivotal point of review.
To date we have reflected and imagined, discussed and deliberated as a staff about what it means to be part of the CPS community. We have asked the students of Years 5 and 6 to give us their ideas too. Del’s is just one example of many responses! Next week we will talk to students from the junior years.
Roses are red,
violets are blue,
our school is great,
but better with you.
Families are invited to participate in the review as well, made possible through the google form link included. The survey aims to gather parent/carer input into this important work. We welcome your ideas, value your reflections and appreciate your time.
A community consultation of this work will take place 14 November - save the date if you are interested in participating. Details to follow next week.
Please complete this short survey by 4 November, 2023.

Positive Behaviour for Learning Student Committee
By Scarlett B 4E
This term, a few kids from the school were elected to be part of the student PBL Committee. The committee includes myself (Scarlett B), Odette W, Duncan M, Jesse W, Tilly W, Lewis Y, Archer H!
The PBL committee is supported by Miss Dee, Miss J and Miss Penny, who did excellent work on starting this school student committee. So far the committee has made some excellent suggestions, including my suggestion to use the basketball court on rotation, just like the spider web where it’s seniors at recess and juniors at lunch.
I hope everyone was showcasing how kind Campbell Primary is during Week 4! Obviously, everyone was amazing. The kindest people on the basketball court each received two tickets for the next CAPS game! Ten double passes were awarded.
Thank you to everyone who is in the student PBL Committee for coming! The PBL Committee is a colossal success and we hope the student PBL committee will do more next year.
This week our Positive Behaviour for Learning focus is what it means to be a Learner. Including the dispositions of active listening, asking questions, collaborating and thinking interdependently. During Week 5 and 6 we will focus on what collaborative learning means and practise doing it!
Campbell Primary School P&C Halloween Disco
Last Friday was the much-anticipated Campbell Primary School P&C Halloween Disco, and didn’t it go OFF! It was amazing to have our community together once again and to see all the creative, colourful, and sometimes scary costumes that the students came up with.
These events don’t come together without a great deal of time and support; on behalf of the Campbell Primary staff and students we would like to extend a huge thanks to the P&C for this fantastic event. Special mention to fundraising coordinator Mel B, disco coordinator (and host with the most) Michael J, DJ and decoration extraordinaire Lyle W (with son Harry), and the small but dedicated crew of parents who gave up their Friday night to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all.
Pictures speak a thousand words so please enjoy this selection of images from the night.
We are thrilled to announce that our highly anticipated School Market Day is just around the corner – scheduled for Friday, Week 8 this term! Campbell Primary and the UC Capitals
Campbell Primary have been very privileged to host the University of Canberra Capitals women’s basketball team for a couple of years now; both for their Hoops Program and to help us open and test out our new basketball court. On Monday we were very excited to welcome Ricky and Nitya from one of the Canberra Capitals major sponsor, The Tradies Club, to help us present some very special prizes; 10 double passes to the opening game this Sunday! They asked us to keep an eye out for students displaying the qualities of a Cap – kindness, spirit and teamwork. It was a challenge that our staff took on with great enthusiasm and we were very excited to present the 10 passes to 10 very excited students from across all grade levels. We hope they help lift the roof at the game this weekend and cheer our Canberra team on to a great first game!
Next month will see the return of the Hoops program here for our Year 5 cohort; delivered by Caps stars. We know they will make the most of the opportunity and we can’t wait to watch their skill develop! A huge thank you to the Tradies Club for their continued sponsorship of this amazing program.
After a couple of false starts yesterday we got underway with the Canberra United CUBS football (soccer) program for Years 1 to 3. Delivered by experienced and certified coaches and with a focus on skill-building and character development that is delivered through a range of age-appropriate activities, drills, and challenges that will continue over the next 6 weeks. There is an emphasis on both fun and team spirit with students given the opportunity to learn the value of collaboration, communication, and sportsmanship through shared experiences on the field.
We had perfect conditions for our first session and all students had a lot of fun developing their dribbling and ball control skills under the expert eye of Coach Nick and Coach Allen (who had represented his home country at the elite level!). In the coming weeks we are expecting a visit and football challenge from current Canberra United players. We can’t wait; they will need to bring their A game!
As it is now warming up we would like to remind all families to ensure that students have a hat and water bottle every day (and especially sports days) and footwear and clothing suitable for lots of movement and activity. We loved seeing all students give it a go yesterday!
