School Modernisation - the next steps

Posted on 13 Aug 2018

The next series of community focus groups will be held at the school on Wednesday 15 August(week 4). Given the large number of comments/ideas provided by staff, parents and community members at the June workshop (over 650), it has taken us much longer to group them into key themes. We needed your help in determining which of the many ideas/suggestions you made are the top priorities for the school community. Thank you to all who completed the online survey which closed 8.00am Monday 13 August. The top priorities (as voted by the community) will be the focus of discussion at focus groups being held at the school on 15 August.

There will be two sessions to provide some flexibility for families. The times are: Session one: 1.30pm to 3.00pm or Session 2: 6.30pm to 8.00pm.  To assist with planning, if you wish to attend one of these sessions, please RSVP to campbellps@ed.act.edu.au by Monday 13 August, indicating which session you would like to attend.

You may also like to watch our short video 57 Voices where our students shared with us what they best like about their school and what they’d like the school to look like in the future.  The 57 voices reflect a student ‘voice’ for each year Campbell Primary School has been open. The video can be viewed here.https://youtu.be/Q2xwLhk8HHQ

Thank you for your interest in the modernisation of our school.

Interior of Classroom Steps and Entrance to Classroom New walkway New toilet block

The building works program is on track and the school will be ready for occupation by students and staff. There has been a considerable amount of activity happening throughout the past week in preparation for the start of the school year. The transportable buildings are substantially complete with minor works being finalised. Removalists started relocating furniture, teaching materials and storage boxes into the new teaching spaces on Wednesday.

Clean fill is being placed on the vacant B Block and Annexe site this week and some construction fencing has already been removed from site. The new games court is in the final stage of design and will soon go to tender with works proceeding throughout Term 1.

We look forward to welcoming students and parents to Campbell Primary School next week for the commencement of the 2018 school year.

Demolition debris being loaded onto the removal truck Former B Block site after demolition

The program of building works is on track with demolition of B Block and the annex now complete. The final stage of rubble removal is currently underway and testing of the soil will be done this week. Once validation of the soil has been achieved, the contractor will import clean fill to reinstate the area to surrounding levels and turf the area. Fencing will then be realigned to return most of the senior play area to the school.

The final transportable building (toilet block) was delivered earlier this week and is now being connected to water and sewer. We also expect the connecting decks including ramps and stairs will be finished this week. Electrical power has been restored to the whole site and has passed all relevant inspections and the information and technology (ICT) cabling to the buildings is in place.

The building contractor is currently arranging for all inspections to be undertaken and we expect a final handover of the site next week, ready for occupation by students and staff from the first day of the 2018 school year.

Walkways for the new purpose built transportable learning spaces Block B wrapping and building site fence Block B with its protective wrapping

The program of works has continued with the wrapping of B Block and the Annexe being finished before the Christmas break. The internal demolition of these buildings is now substantially complete and Block B is scheduled for full demolition commencing the week of 15 January. This work will be undertaken by a company licensed to deal with asbestos demolition.

The infrastructure for electrical supply is currently being installed across the school and work also continues in preparing the interior of the purpose-built learning spaces for our students and teachers.

The plan for the building works is on track and we expect this to be completed by 25 January, ready for occupation by students and staff from the first day of the 2018 school year.
