Absence from School

If your child is absent from school, you are required to notify the school (via Sentral for Parents app, email to campbellps@ed.act.edu.au, or phone call to 6142 3580) informing school of the absence. If a child is absent without explanation for longer than 3 days the school will contact the parents. If there is no reply and/or the absence continues, the Directorate will be notified.

Students who arrive at school after 9:00am, who are Absent when the rolls are taken, will be marked as such.  The teacher will not amend the roll in the classroom.  Please escort your child via the front office and stop for a moment to make sure we have recorded your child's name and their arrival time.  The absence of a student arriving unaccompanied by a parent/carer is considered to be unexplained until we have received an explanation from the parent/carer either in person, by Sentral for Parents app notification, an email or phone call to the school.  Absence notifications are sent home to families of students with an unexplained late arrive/absence.  If a pattern of lateness exists, schools are required to raise this issue with parents as it impacts on the student’s opportunity to learn.

Should you receive an SMS message to let you know your child has been recorded as Absent you can simply reply via SMS, with your child's name and the reason for your child’s absence and we will update our records. In advance notification of absences, please include the student’s name, roll class, date of absence/s, reason for absence, period of absence (partial or full day) and parent/carer’s name.

Accidents and Illnesses

We notify you when your child is sick or injured at school. The school has sick bay facilities which may be used until parent/carers are contacted and asked to take the child home. We ask that three phone numbers be given to the school for emergency contact - home, work and a relative or friend living in the ACT. Should your child develop chicken pox, mumps, measles, head lice or any other contagious condition, please contact the school for information about exclusion periods and to enable the school to warn other parent/carers that their children have been exposed to possible infection.

Allergy Aware School

Campbell Primary School is an allergy aware school as some of our students have severe allergies to certain items, specifically nuts. Please do not send food items such as nuts, peanut butter, snacks containing peanuts or items cooked in peanut oil.

If you have any concerns or questions about this policy please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Appointments

Communication between school and home is highly valued. Parents are asked to make an appointment for any discussion with the Principal, Deputy Principal, School Psychologist or teachers.

An appointment will be arranged at the earliest possible time and attention will be given immediately to urgent issues.

Arrival and Departure

There is teacher supervision on the basketball court from 8:45am onwards.  Children should arrive at school and move directly to an area where supervision is provided. Parents are encouraged to adhere to these arrangements to ensure their child’s safety. In the afternoons, children are expected to depart school grounds promptly at 3:00pm.  Preschool and Kindergarten students must be collected from their designated area by a parent/carer or an authorised adult.  On wet days students can go to the hall after 8:45am.  Before and after school care is provided by Campbell After School Activity Centre (‘CASAC’) for casual and permanent bookings.

Assemblies

Assemblies are held fortnightly on Wednesdays (2:10-2:45pm) throughout the year in the school hall.  An open invitation is extended to all parents to attend assemblies.  Each class takes a turn at presenting the assembly, which showcases work undertaken in the previous weeks.  Information about the assembly times is included in the Term Overviews.
